Regarding the soldering issue. i am only soldering the ring terminals onto the end of the wires. Also I have read the USCG regulations for wiring and find no mention of : "to solder or not to solder"
In all of my electrical past I have always been taught that a soldered connection is much better than a mechanical connection (crimp). If any one has any other thoughts on this I would love to discuss.
