Hi, Group. I'm considering replacing the sliding door and relight (window) on my 36 SS. Anybody ever done this? Suggestions as to what to replace it with would be welcome.
Currently, the door and relight are dark anodized aluminum, which over the years have become pitted and rather nasty. Plus, the door is hard to open and close. It improves somewhat when I lubricate the track, but it doesn't last; and there's a divot in the track that makes the door "kathump-thum" whenever the roller goes over it, and I know that's not going away. What has prompted this is that I've been gutting the interior, stripping and sanding all the wood. I knew there was dry rot in the support between the door and relight, but it was a little more extensive than I expected. And today I discovered some rot at the bottom of the trim piece on the port side, between the door frame and the cabin side. While I can repair the center support with everything in situ, the door assembly's going to have to come out to address the side trim, and that's the tipping point for me - If I have to pull the door, then I'm going to replace it. The current slider appears to be a pretty standard hardware-store-type residential sliding door. I'm considering replacing it with the same, but am considering going with vinyl instead of the aluminum. Only thing I don't like about the vinyl is the bright white, but it would tie in with the blue-and-white exterior, and I like the no-rot/no- anodizing aspect of the vinyl. Any thoughts about whether I need to install some sort of support for the flybridge when I remove the door? I wouldn't anticipate it being out for long. The center support (between the door frame and the relight) is completely rotted at the bottom, so it's giving no support at all. Any thoughts? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "UnifliteWorld" group.
