Take it to the actual shop that rebuilds the motors so you can talk to the
rebuilder, not some place ware you drop it off to be sent out.

For over 20 years I did dive charters with my Ideal windless with all 175'
of chain. I would anchor about 12 or more time a day. I had to overhaul the
motor twice. It is a great set up.

unfortunately (or fortunately - more later) most winch motors are
converted starter motors.  The "unfortunately" part is that they
aren't designed for continuous use.  Think on how you twist the key on
a starter - 30 seconds, max; while winch motors may be run for several
minutes at a time.  The "fortunately" part of this equation is that
you can pull out the winch motor, take it to a good (emphasis on GOOD)
and reputable auto electric shop, and have it rebuilt, at a reasonable
(though not minimal) price.  Do a Google search for starter rebuild in
your location.
