The problem turned out to be a blown 150 Amp fuse on the hot side of the power. The fuse looked fine but ohming it out showed an open. Replacing fuse setup with an AYBC complliant fusing system. BTW the windlass runs great now!! I have the same windless on my 1984 42 II SE. I'm at a loss to determine what the problem is going by your written discription. You indicate that the motor is not trying to turn (I think). That would suggest that the wiring is wrong because it seems unlikely that both solenoids would loose their contacts at the same time. A solenoid with out internal electrical contacts could click and yet not connect the motor to the power source. If the motors tries to turn but can't, then I would suspect the gears are jammed. I don't think I'm helping much, but I am curious. I have all the documents (installation instructions and drawing) but there is nothing about troubleshooting. Any of you have an Ideal Windless installed on your Uni? I just rebuilt the gearbox and Now having problems with the motor which had been working. What did happen was I filled the gear box with gear oil and when installing the whole thing ( not easy) oil seeped into the motor. It ran strong a few times fwd and rev. then stopped. took motor out and cleaned with CRC Electro Motov. Douched well and cleaned brushes and armature really well. The windless shaft turns by hand and the motor turns smoothly. When I press the up or down switchs all I get is the sound of the solinoid clicking. Large Bummer. Any clues, hints, scuttlebutt real facts ideas would be helpful. BTW the windless model is MCW 350Lbs. This thing makes me feel like I'm furling the Topgallant sail whilst being July slightly westward of the horn.
