Kerry, I agree with you about the visibility from the down station.  I 
specifically tried the down helm when I was in sea trials with my 42. It was 
great and that is partly why I bought the one I did.  I'm not helping you with 
your question, I know.  My aft cabin has the hardtop and my dink is up there 
(visibility astern sucks when doing the stern-in docking).

Thanks Kent.  I looked into that option but my boat has a lower helm and around 
here there are plenty of months that I want to be using it.  Don't you lose 
your visibility from down below when you have your RIB up front?

get the RIB on and off the stern, but it sure is nice to have it
