I live up here in Alaska, and have a 1970 27' express. Besides the single 360, 
it's a great boat. I'm building a 318 for it at this very moment. The stringers 
are in fact not wood, kevlar or fiberglass i'm not sure.
As far as taking rough water. I have had it in 7' seas with a broken 
crankshaft... I'd love it if i had two 318's, mine is most economical at 7-8 
kts, the 360 ran at 1900rpm, and 3400 at 15kts.
Maybe the 318 wil live longer than two weekends
