If you can not save the old carpet for a paten, buy a real cheep THIN carpet
and make a paten. Then your mistakes are on that and not your new carpet.

You are probably right.
Since I have time I can give it a try. Worse case is I am out my time
and wreck a few yds of carpet,....  then I call in the pros.

I installed engineered hardwood flooring in the front half of the boat
2 yrs ago and it turned out well- after a learning experience.

Part of the fun now is doing and learning myself. And anyway, I have
no experience robbing banks either. The consequences of screwing that
up are much greater.
