personally, if you are really simply looking to do 8 knots with a " high cruise
" of 11 knots and are concerned about fuel economy i would go with a single
diesel.... 8 knots is probably a bit above hull speed but close enough to where
you are not pushing much and under 2.5 gph is realistic.

Hi Guys, I have a 1976 36 and it was repowerd with 3208 cats.I cruise at about
10 knot @ 1000 RPM.When i get close to my home marina I open her up to clean
out any shalac and criuse at about 12 knots at 1300 RPM for about 3
minutes.Love the cats.We use them on our drilling rig and they take alot of
abuse. My friend has 600 cummings turbos but a planning hull and sucks the fuel
bad vat 1300 RPM.I will keep following your info. Have a great day, Jeff On

Bob,

Thanks for the RPM info and very interesting that you are
contemplating similar project.

I am putting together a project outline with questions I need to
answer and will probably try some Q&A on a forum like boatdesign.net.

As this proceeds, I'll probably put up a Web page with info/pics and
will definiteely let you and group know what's happening.
