Bob the filter is a steel screen.  Disconnect the shifter first and check the 
cable.  If you have the twin disc tranny I can scan the manual I have so you 
can have a copy to find the screen.  If you were running it hard you should 
make sure you are getting proper oil flow as I "believe" it shares oil with the 
engine.  I could be remembering incorrectly.
