Kerry,

Thanks. Yes it is a new issue. It only happened as I was docking and
shifting in and out of reverse. I could get it to shift OK but with quite a bit

of pressure on the shift lever as I shifted it out of reverse.. It was
"sticking" in the reverse position. It shifted in and out of fwd. just fine and

into reverse smoothly. Where is the filter located? I have never changed it
or cleaned it in the 12 years I've owned the boat. I will check the shift
cables to make sure it isn't in that system. I'm doubtful though because it
happened after running the boat hard to check out engine cooling, which
was good. I hate and don't believe in "coincidence' much. I didn't even know
there was a filter on the trans.

Bob,

Before you start thinking about a rebuild you should consider just a basic
inspection. That twin disc tranny is sensitive to a dirty filter. They
have a permanent screen in them. Check it and make sure it is completely
clean. I had problems with mine slipping badly on my port side and 90% of it
went away after I had the thing cleaned. Rebuilding the tranny can be
pricey as it is very difficult to pull it out and it weighs enough to through
out the just about anyone’s back if you don’t take the extra time to hoist
it out. On a separate note is this a new issue? Has it happened more than
once? And how hard is hard? Once it is in hear does it work OK or does
it slip? Are you sure it isn’t a control cable issue?

I have a 42 ft ACMY with DD 671 NA engines. Yesterday after running the
engines hard (1800 t0 2000 RPM) for 30 minutes, my port transmission (Twin
Disc) was hard to get out of reverse. Any ideas on this and how difficult is
it to get my transmission rebuilt. Does it have to be removed from the boat
to be rebuilt? I'm guessing it does. I'm in San Diego. Thanks. Bob C.
