Done. We backported the code to 2.6.21.5. I just released it. Give it a try and let me now how it works for you (we're happy to be "spammed" by success stories, not just bug reports :-) To all, if there are any other stable 2.6 kernels you really need unionfs2 for, please send me an email. Based on how much demand there is, we'll do our best to accommodate (the older the kernel is, however, the longer it could take to back-port the code).
