Several email lists to which I subscribe have guidelines that limit each participant to one post per day. On some, there is a list monitor who enforces this; on others, it works on an honor/peer pressure system (with the assumption that habitual abusers will be unsubscribed by the list-owner). While some might see this as stifling an individual's right to express himself, it really only requires that he summarize his arguments in one daily post, rather than repeating the same message over and over.
Perhaps this would balance the needs of some to have their opinions heard (or read) with the needs of others to control the amount of incoming mail. I'm curious what others think on this. Is the approach to the h.d. debate (the most noise on the list of late) to ignore Al and let things go silent? Is it worthwhile that there is this discussion? The downside of such heated discussions is that the number of unsubs goes up markedly. (Remember, people on AOL and a few other really bad mail systems have enough trouble deleting unwanted mail that these discussions can seem onerous indeed.) -- Jeff Jeff Abrahamson <http://www.purple.com/jeff/> The Big Book of Misunderstanding, now in bookstores and on the web: <http://www.misunderstanding.net/buystuff.html> ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
