While this has been informative, I begin to doubt the wisdom of opening
myself up to the concerted efforts of a commercial entity to influence my
opinion via this medium that I perceived as a community venue.

The intensity of this guy's interest is magnified to the extent that he owns
so many properties. An extra $100 spent on a window for me is likely to be a
$50k issue for him, so sure he's going to amplify his message here. Why not?
It's cheaper than running an ad in the local paper. But people are more
selective about reading ads and his volume wouldn't seem out of place there.
Is there no local "realtors association" that could come to a balanced
perspective on the HD issue and then represent that to the "homeowners
association" that I perceive SHCA and UCHS to be?

It's a little like having a full-time PR agency representing itself as just
another citizen in a civic debate. Instead, he's a ringer. Again, I'm
grateful for discourse and brainstorming of alternatives, but not for the
sniping and characterizations that I've begun to see. Let there be a new
list for realtors and one for homeowners, and cross-post as needed. But this
latest exchange goes beyond netiquette issues to the extent that there are
power and interest differentials clashing. The way I see it working best is
that those with similar interests discuss among themselves, then the
representatives of those groups hash it out. Otherwise we are not all
playing by the same rules.
