I've used GEICO for auto insurance since Victorian porches were considered contemporary. In more than 40 years, I've had claims for two stolen cars, two accidents, and one accusation by someone else of having scratched his car. They always handled the claims satisfactorily. More than satisfactorily.

The most recent case was a theft of a Bronco-II. Their settlement offer was far too low. I called to discuss it with them and they provided me with some want ads from the Allentown and Pottstown areas (!?!?!) showing where they'd gotten their amount. We had some courteous negotiation, including documentation I produced, and they revised their offer upward to a point at which I was more than happy.

One other thing, I have a multi-vehicle policy with decent 2nd and 3rd car extra discounts. I also have homeowner's insurance through them (it's with Travelers) and there are discounts involved there, too.

Frugal as I am (some scalawags have used the word "cheap") I've never responded to any of the AIG, AARP, Insure-with-Joe, or other offers. Why take a chance, even for a small savings, when GEICO has provided outstanding service all these years?
