My heart goes out to Monique -- what happened to her cat is simply awful.

That being said, to suggest that there is any correlation between
responsible dog owners allowing their dogs off a leash to exercise and the
formation of "wolf-packs" that roam the neighborhood attacking pets is
preposterous.

Let's all take a deep breath, and think rationally about this issue.

To all dog owners of unleashed pets: Some of us in this neighborhood like to
walk around our neighborhood, ride our bikes, or just hang out drinking a
cup
of coffee in the morning in peace. This situation with the unleashed dogs
and
the dogs left to become packs are making this impossible for us. I appeal to
you for the sake of all these innocent people and for this poor little
kittie
who was killed this morning. Now, besides having our cars broken into, we
now
have to worry about gangs of dogs???

I talk to you now as a cat owner, who also loves dogs. But to the owners
who
think that giving a dog the right kind of love, support, and good home life
will strip him of his intincts, you are wrong. I know because for years I
denied any possibility that my Chow Chow could hurt anyone. She was,
afterall,
cute as a button, looked like a big teddy bear. But people had told me that
Chow Chows had agressive behaviors and that I couldn't train or love it out
of
my dog. They were right. A few weeks before my wedding, one of my
bridesmaids
was putting something in the trash when my Chow Chow got irritated and
almost
took her arm off. The wedding pictures were cute with her arm in a sling,
but
at least she still had her arm.

I had to learn that hard way that no amount of love or disciipline can ever
take away the instinct. Same goes for dogs left unleashed or wandering
around
in a park with other dogs. Their instinct will take over and this pack
mentality will take control over your otherwise sweet little harmless
creatures. Please be wise about this.
