To my recollection, I think we have heard from approximately two (2) people complaining about unleashed dogs in the Clark Bowl (as opposed to general griping about dogs not being on leashes).
I was at the Bowl on Sunday morning. Dogs were off leashes and harmony prevailed. Along with the dogs, there were a bunch of jugglers juggling bowling-like pins with young children nearby. It looked dangerous, but I did not see anybody threaten them with any type of weapon. (I, personally, don't like to see "carneys" in the Park, or at the very least, think there should be some fenced area where carneys can congregate -- separated from us non-carney types). Jonathan A. What about that Hack money? Can't it go to devising some kind of area for dogs to be exercised off-leash? I don't hear any complaints about not enough plants or trees or flowers in Clark Park but I certainly do hear a lot about dogs!!! BTW, I've already expressed my condolences to Monique on the horrific circumstances surrounding the death of her cat. -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Cass [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 03, 2003 11:47 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [UC] Unleashed Dogs!!! My heart goes out to Monique -- what happened to her cat is simply awful. That being said, to suggest that there is any correlation between responsible dog owners allowing their dogs off a leash to exercise and the formation of "wolf-packs" that roam the neighborhood attacking pets is preposterous. Let's all take a deep breath, and think rationally about this issue. Jonathan A. To all dog owners of unleashed pets: Some of us in this neighborhood like to walk around our neighborhood, ride our bikes, or just hang out drinking a cup of coffee in the morning in peace. This situation with the unleashed dogs and the dogs left to become packs are making this impossible for us. I appeal to you for the sake of all these innocent people and for this poor little kittie who was killed this morning. Now, besides having our cars broken into, we now have to worry about gangs of dogs??? I talk to you now as a cat owner, who also loves dogs. But to the owners who think that giving a dog the right kind of love, support, and good home life will strip him of his intincts, you are wrong. I know because for years I denied any possibility that my Chow Chow could hurt anyone. She was, afterall, cute as a button, looked like a big teddy bear. But people had told me that Chow Chows had agressive behaviors and that I couldn't train or love it out of my dog. They were right. A few weeks before my wedding, one of my bridesmaids was putting something in the trash when my Chow Chow got irritated and almost took her arm off. The wedding pictures were cute with her arm in a sling, but at least she still had her arm. I had to learn that hard way that no amount of love or disciipline can ever take away the instinct. Same goes for dogs left unleashed or wandering around in a park with other dogs. Their instinct will take over and this pack mentality will take control over your otherwise sweet little harmless creatures. Please be wise about this.
