'...disparate people...'? '...meltdowns...'? I didn't sign up for any of that stuff. I subscribed to this list thinking it was a bunch of like-minded Stepford folkies who would reaffirm my quirky longings for cookie cutter Victoriana and off-leash dogs pooping in tot lots. That's what I call a useful listserv.

Computers are only tools, and this forum (like all other mailing lists to
which humans subscribe) is only a medium for human-driven discussion. If you
get a bunch of disparate people together to talk about a hot-button topic,
you get... questions, emotional meltdowns, and then (perhaps) an answer. The
key to any useful public forum is to figure out how to work through the
emotional meltdowns and to put aside the petty squabbling and find the gems
of information which allow us to move forward.

So I guess this list serve is a place where you ask questions, lots of
people have emotional meltdowns, and then you get an answer.
