What's interesting is that the voters throughout the conservatives and voted in the socialists. There was a backlash against the current government b/c of their support of the Iraq war. A collective realization of "hey, maybe what our government is doing is not the right thing."
Compare that to what our Congress did after 9-11- passed the Patriot Act -- a statute that has had the effect of consolidating power in the executive branch and undermining civil liberties.
