Nicely put. I think there's yet another factor. The Popular Party tried to lie to the people in immediately blaming the Basque Separatists for the attack. Whether they knew it wasn't true, or simply didn't know who was responsible but decided to blame the separatists because doing so served the Popular Party's agenda is in question. I believe that authorities who lie to the people are committing the biggest abuses of all. and guess what -- Tip O'Neill strikes again with the quip "all politics is local." And that lesson does apply here in our little community.
