Out of curiosity, has anybody heard of future plans for the following buildings:

(1) former Thriftway on Walnut Street?

It is under renovation. Work started about two weeks before Christmas.

One assumes that the original story told by the staff as it closed, about being purchased by a Latino Supermarket Company from North Jersey with intent to re-open as a food store are still correct.

(2) building on Southside of Chestnut around the 4500 block that looked like it was formally used as anursing facility? I think it has "Human Services" or something like that on the exterior. It closed and was boarded up within the past 6 months or so?

Actually, it's been closed and boarded up for the past 3 or 4 years now. While the bank held the property they had a "guard" on site... but no work was being done.

The original "deal" was to be a juvenile drug rehab operation as I recall. When that concept became known in the Community and folks dumped all over Jannie for suggesting it, she withdrew the proposal.

I haven't looked lately, but the "owner" was one of the major construction companies in the City. After Jannie's proposal fell through, they were trying to interest West Catholic in the property.

Now, it's up for lease as either a Nursing Home or Charter School according to the sign that went up about Thanksgiving.

(3) former site of s---hole supermarket on 48th Street near Spruce?

Supposedly purchased by the same folks who bought the Thriftway.

(4) The 4500 block of Sansom -- "demolition" work has been taking place on a number of the properties adjacent to the tot-lot on the north side of the street for several months now. No indication of WHO is the active participant. One assumes the West Philadelphia Partnership, but I don't know. Nothing happened with the two vacant lots where Habitat for Humanity was supposed to construct homes last summer.
