I think what bothers me most is the very high-handedness of it all.

It implies that some residents and/or subscribers should not be borne
because their statements or opinions upset us, so let us better folk adjourn
to another forum where we can more readily censor them.

People are people and the Internet for good or ill is public.  When one
deals with the public, one has to realize there are all kinds of people and
prepare to deal with that fact.  That is why there are delete keys on the
keyboard.

Expectations that people should all be good, great or terribly interesting
all the time is unrealistic.   Stating one is leaving the listserv due to
bad traffic, (unexplained as yet even though requested forthright) reminds
me of statements such as, ³They¹re not MY kind of people.², or ³We have to
move away from THAT element.²

What¹s really disappointing is that apparently true diversity of opinion on
community issues or direction of the community is not welcomed by many
people, who purport that they live here BECAUSE of the diverse environment.
