My husband and I had an experience where, the next day, the police had no
record of an auto accident in which we'd been involved, at 46th & Market, so I
know that real incidents can go missing.

The driver in front of us on 46th St. was part way into the intersection; the
light turned red, and cars on Market St. started honking at him, so he backed
up - not noticing my husband behind him, honking for him to stop. That
driver managed to catch his bumper on my husband's wheel well, and the cars
were
locked together. When we got out of our cars, it became clear that he was
completely drunk and really had no idea what was going on. The police showed
up
and spent so much time at the scene getting info for their report, with the
cars in the way of traffic, that two other cars actually ran into each other
also, requiring a second police report. The guy who hit our car was taken
away
in a police van. My husband asked the police for permission to let the air
out of one of his tires so his car would be lower and would unhook from ours,
and the police let him do it. A tow truck showed up and moved the guy's car
to the parking lane. My husband had his keys, and it was a nice car, so he
wanted to lock it up and give the keys to someone who would return them to the
owner. The cops refused to take them. They told us we could call the
district if we wanted to return them.

The next day, we did - we called two districts, since the first cop on the
scene was just passing by and was actually from another district. Both said
they had no record of any type of incident at 46th & Market. In the end, we
gave up and threw out the keys.

So, although there were two incidents and two reports written while we
waited, and although they arrested the drunk driver at the scene, the next day,
both
districts swore that nothing had happened there.
