Great, another suburban-style big-box shopping center full of

A full-fledged shopping mall is being opened in West Philadelphia
near the Mann Music Ctr., behind 52nd St. and Parkside Ave. It's
huge. The Park West Town Center Shopping Mall promises "fresh foods,
clothing, the latest in telephone technology, household building
supplies, fast food, pet supplies and more."
Its anchor store, Lowe’s Home Improvement Center,* *will open to the
public tomorrow, Jan. 18. "Lots of fanfare has been planned for the
day," a shopping-center spokesperson said, "ranging from visits and
speeches from elected officials, developers, contractors and
business owners, along with community residents who have been
watching the progress of the development. There will be face
painters and balloons for the children and information from non-
profit and civic organizations for the adults. And then of course,
there’s the shopping that can finally be done inside the Lowe’s Home
Improvement Center, the first of almost 10 stores coming to the mall."
