so far this hotel plan has been delivered piecemeal, pitched to limited
groups and tete-a-tetes over coffee, each time with newly questionable
reasons from the developer to justify it. there hasn't been one
community-wide forum (public, inclusive, properly announced, in a non-penn
setting) to examine this proposal, which continues to be a moving target.
The developers are going to great lengths to whip up support outside of the
community. But as you point out; they have not made any attempt to host a
real community forum to get any genuine feedback here. At this point, it
seems likely that they're going to continue trawling for endorsements from
cronies and using these drawings. I believe, Penn will use their power to
tower over us like they have been doing for decades.
After all the deception, I think the developers know that it is too late,
had they ever hoped to actually gain community support. They just want to
cry that they're not treated fairly by the meanies of Woodland Terrace to
justify not having a forum for the community residents
Thanks for putting together this timeline for all of us.
I was definitely thinking about the drawing in the Illadelph blog, Oct. UC
Review and Phillyblog. I was at Houston Hall on Wed and saw that view again
in something I was looking at. I thought it was the DP. As I recall, it
was that same extremely distorted view but small in black and white only.
Now, I want to go to Houston Hall and try to find it.
It is hard to keep up with the spin in this "moving target" This time line
is very helpful!

Frank and Ray,
Did either of you see the paper copy of the DP?
there's only been 2 articles about this hotel in the dp. the first was on
dec 6 and the print version simply showed a graphic of the monopoly board
game (the article was entitled "Developers want to pass go, collect $200;
neighborhood hesitant").
http://tinyurl.com/36d78e
the second article appeared this week, jan 23, and it did not have any
illustration; it was buried on p. 10 as a general article about hotels
being planned in philly.

I first discovered lussenhop's distorted early drawing on the 'illadelph
blog' on dec 2:
http://tinyurl.com/22p8ex
this distorted drawing was similar to the one originally published by uc
review on oct 10, when it first broke the news about the 10-story hotel:
http://www.ucreview.com/clients/ucreview/071010.jpg
then on jan 16 uc review printed marianna thomas' drawings, showing the
hotel as having more mass/scale/height than lussenhop's earlier drawings:
http://tinyurl.com/258yq9
a week later uc review published lussenhop's revised drawing, which now
closely matches thomas' drawing (and what one would see in person after
walking over to the radian and comparing 11 stories with an adjacent 3
story mansion):
http://tinyurl.com/238daf
lussenhop's new drawing shows dramatically how his earlier drawings were a
distortion, and it's now quite plain, to anyone looking at the new
drawing, just how far this hotel is out of character and scale with the
neighborhood around 40th and pine.

the one constant in all this is lussenhop's adherence to the massive
height/mass/scale of an 11-story hotel, and neighbors' opposition to that
and its consequences.
