It seems some people can't have a civil discussion without
criticizing people who weren't even involved in it. I politely
corrected a factual error and got a tirade of abuse. I was told that
I have no children and should therefore keep my trap shut. The sad
state of Philadelphia schools effects everyone in the city (and
beyond) and everyone's opinion matters whether or not they have
chosen to have children. To believe otherwise is just silly.
One could characterize the the two UC lists in another way: One of
them is for discussing social issues and the other is for arranging
social gatherings, at least judging by their histories. People here
speak their minds even if some people don't want them to. Some people
"over there" seem to be typing on eggshells, afraid to offend. Fun!
Finally, a thank you to Wilma, maybe the bravest person on the list.

West, the tactics you used as leader of the Fiends of Clark Park
gang don't work as well on a public list. People can read your
efforts to silence, mislead, and bully. They can read the
opinioins and questions posted by your targets.
As ruler of FOCP and servant of UCD, you had a free pass to silence
and bully anyone you wished. It must burn you up to know that
people increasingly realize the truth!
After years of attacking my character, you failed to shut me up.

FOCP because I heard all about his bad character. But now it seems
that the wanker tells the truth and the leaders at FOCP and SHCA

I have read no discussion on UC-list about West Philadelphia
public education, involving parents or teachers, that pays the
slightest attention to the facts of life both parents and teachers
face day in and day out, save for you and I and maybe Kimm.
Vivianne Nachmias and Mary Goldman are also obvious commentators
that every rational neighbor would want to hear from ... yet the
latter two chiefly avoid UC-list now when commenting, it seems to me.
For the rest ... I read tedious, pompous opinions by childless
experts, wannabee-teacher experts and Penn-is-bad experts. The
usual suspects. More to the point, I don't read any astute insight
into my child's educational future on UC-list, beyond a small
circle of people who care enough about this subject to stick their
necks out, to abandon mushy clichés and to dare to talk about the
real life of a public-school family in University City in 2008.
I'm convinced my neighbors have more to say on this subject than
we have yet heard.
