Thanks for the correction, you're correct. I think that I remember Chavez suggesting Chomsky's book in an interview.

I'll check Galeano out at the library tomorrow. (I tend to love books banned by right wing regimes!)

Here is an actor giving American whistle blower, General Smedley Butler's speech, "War is a Racket". In this speech, with the same title as his short book, Smedley admits his own role as a corporate muscleman in Cuba, Haiti, Mexico and across Latin America at the beginning of the 20th century. Like with Eisenhower's farewell speech, these truths are not given by activists, but by whistle blowers with the courage to speak out!

Here is the text of Butler's book, War is a Racket. (scroll down, it's very short). Butler is excluded from most American history lessons. During the 1930's, he exposed the fascist coup to overthrow the US government because of Roosevelt's New Deal.

I believe the book was Eduardo Galeano's "Open Veins of Latin America", which is required reading for anyone interested in Latin American history.

Here is an excellent editorial about the democracies, leadership,

revolted and wanted a people's democracy instead of a military
empire and oligarchy, we would find great support from our
brothers and sisters in the South. But the Honduras example shows
that our empire is staying the course of the past 100 years in
Latin America. (I seem to remember that it was Chomsky's most
recent book that Chavez gave to Obama in the photo.)
