Of course you could. But the maximum capacity for 2.5" is <100MB. If you want to store FLACs, you're rather limited. 3.5" is available up to 500MB. And the per MB price of 2.5" is higher than on 3.5".

Also- do I need a special CF card to be able to boot or will any CF
card boot?

The card is unimportant. The adapter has to support it. But buy some _fast_ CF card, not the cheapest.
