I see a potential issue: If your slimserver is running as user slimserver, group slimserver, it's not going to be able to see the music file you have listed on the remote share, since the file is not world readable. The directories above are, which is why you can see the file at all, but the file itself isn't. In the local filesystem, the file is world readable, so slimserver can see it fine.
If it's a remote folder, permissions are often controlled at mount time, or you can try a chmod -R +r as root on the Music folder and see if that fixes things. I'm guessing your tag database isn't all right. Slimserver will guess artist, album and song from the directory structure, but if it can't read the file it can't read the tags either. It might be helpful if we saw files and directories in the Music folder on your remote folder as well. mrloop Wrote: > The permissions for the remote folder > > /mnt/music2 (songs will not play from here) > > drwxrwxr-x 7 slimserver mrloop 0 Dec 16 19:55 . > drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Dec 20 18:20 .. > drwxrwxr-x 32 mrloop mrloop 0 Dec 16 20:04 Music > -rwxrwx--x 1 mrloop mrloop 4043883 Apr 30 2005 _ Ay mujer !.mp3 > > while for /home/shared (songs will play from here) > > drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody nobody 4096 Dec 20 15:38 . > drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 27 13:46 .. > -rwxrwxr-x 1 nobody nobody 7127962 Apr 30 2005 01 - San Francisco.mp3 > > I'm sure that this is a permissions issue but because of my limited > knowledge of linux I'm stuck! -- mrfantasy --Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mrfantasy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1127 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19291 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
