My advise is to transform your linkstation to a debian box. I have a kurobox which I have installed the slimsertver on. Workslike a charm. With debian on it you can use all kinds of programs without even nowing you have a lnkstation. And updates are easily performed by just typing "apt-get upgrade" (does not work for slimserver yet, but it is in development).
