The Gigabit models have PowerPC CPUs like the first revision of the
"normal" Linkstations, but with (a little) higher clock - newer
revisions have a MIPSel derivative.
I'd guess this more like a "pro" for running Slimserver as binary
distributions/toolchains for PPC are much more available than for
MIPSel.
Apart from that, the Gigabit version has twice the RAM of the normal
revision, which is a good thing for running Slimserver as well.
The only drawback of the Gigabit version is that there are obviously
problems updating the firmware. Even with the official firmware, lots
of users "bricked" their devices.
