The Gigabit models have PowerPC CPUs like the first revision of the "normal" Linkstations, but with (a little) higher clock - newer revisions have a MIPSel derivative. I'd guess this more like a "pro" for running Slimserver as binary distributions/toolchains for PPC are much more available than for MIPSel. Apart from that, the Gigabit version has twice the RAM of the normal revision, which is a good thing for running Slimserver as well. The only drawback of the Gigabit version is that there are obviously problems updating the firmware. Even with the official firmware, lots of users "bricked" their devices.
A good place for info on Linkstations is the Linkstation Wiki: http://linkstationwiki.org/forum/index.php -- 0xdeadbeef ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0xdeadbeef's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2287 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19560 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
