So for the time being, I've added the slimserver user to the group
owning the directory, and set the directory's sgid bit.  This will have
to suffice for the time being.  The files in this directory are accessed
primarily through samba, which enforces 660 & 770 permissions on files &
directories respectively, per smb.conf settings.  Unfortunately any
playlists created through slimserver will have 644 permissions--groups
users won't be able to modify.  

I think when I rebuild this server (hopefully in the near future), I
will put the file share on a separate partition and have it mounted
with a umask that enforces these permissions.
