I have this problem with Ubuntu, Slimserver 6.5b1 and AlienBBC 1.01. I tried updating Ubuntu to Dapper Drake as it has a much more recent build of mplayer (MPlayer 2:0.99+1.0pre7try2+cvs20060117-0ubuntu5).
