Drop outs happen on live stream due to packets being dropped by the
server due to network congestion (i.e worst on BBC around Mon-Thu
7.30am-9.00, 5.00pm-7.00pm and 9.30pm-11.pm) . With a live stream you
cannot send a burst of packets to make up the backlog - the packets are
generated in real time.

When a packet is lost it is replaced with some silence but some of the
mplayer 128k buffer is also used up - after a while if many packets are
lost, all the mplayer cache buffer is used and then the stream stutters.
Best thing is to pause for about 15 secs and then play.

This only happens with live as listen again can send burst of packets
faster than realtime.

I don't know the high speed catch effect.
