Sounds about right to me, performance-wise. I'm running on even more modest hardware (Kuro Box, 266 MHz PPC, 128 MB RAM), with about 5 times the music. It just took 20 seconds for the "Browse Albums" screen to come up.
One suggestion I can make to improve web performance is to switch to the Handheld skin, even for desktop use. It's the most efficient I've seen in terms of server utilization, and it's quite clean to boot. Slim Devices' system requirements are something like a 700 MHz PIII, so I don't think we can complain too much, except to look forward to performance and threading enhancements.
