I also had the problems described above, left panel blank and missing menu item's etc on my dapper box. This happened after I upgraded a 6.5 nightly to the latest nightly about 2 weeks ago (I later saw Dan post something to say there had been major changes at about that time). I've just done a completely clean install of Kubunbtu and now the latest nightly is working again. I suspect there was something that changed that messed things up, or maybe some packages changed.
Anyway, it's a radical step to take, but it does work :-) Perhaps try nuking every single squeeze related file first, and perhaps remove a bunch of the related debs first and see if that fixes things.
