Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply.

You are right, it does boot up. It stalls for a long time with the
following messages: -

INIT: Entering runlevel 5
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0

Then it fails with some messages that are too quick for me to type and
the boot up continues ok.
Can I get rid of the checking for the floppy?

I've now edited the correct file and the ifconfig works. However I was
wrong about the mnt and I've added: -

/mnt/hdb5 (which is my disk with my music)

to the .bash_profile after the ifconfig and still it does not seem to
mount that disk. I have to mount it manually after boot up.

I am a linux newbie and so I'm sorry if these are dumb questions.

Again, any ideas?

Thanks

Mick
