Hi Greg, I'm investigating playlist issues right now in the upcoming 6.3 release.
Are your playlists ones that were created using Slimserver 5.4? Or are they from some other application? (iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc). Are they .m3u files? Are you suffering from bug 3427? (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3427) I assume the playlist files still exist somewhere on your hard drive, but slimserver just isn't "seeing" them?
