I'm still a novice when it comes to Linux, so sorry if my question here
is overly basic.

Several months ago in the interest of creating a low-cost Slimserver, I
put together a box out of spare parts and installed SUSE Linux 10 on it
(my very first experience with Linux--I'm normally a Windows user). I
then installed the Slimserver 6.2 rpm, and made a few tweaks with the
help of some here on the forum to get it to work. Among these tweaks
was moving/tweaking the slimserver script to /etc/init.d, getting it to
autostart, and installing ALAC. This was all done mostly through the
use of information in this thread.

In any case, this all went very well and everything works great right
now. There are, however, some changes in the new 6.3 Slimserver update
that I wouldn't mind having. So what I'd like to ask is what is the
best way to upgrade, and how do I preserve my settings? I've
downloaded the new .rpm, but am not sure what to do with it. For
example, do I need to stop the server, completely remove the old
software, then install the new .rpm? Or is there an easier way?

Dave
