I decided to try using the debian package to install slimserver. Three dependencies come up, all of which have numerous other dependencies, all of which are files in the unstable release of debian linux. Even the PERL version required to support the dependencies is an unstable version (according to the debian web site). Here's the poop that apt (?) reports when I try to install:
The following packages have unmet dependencies: slimserver: Depends: libclass-virtual-perl but it is not installable Depends: libtext-unidecode-perl but it is not installable Depends: libyaml-syck-perl (>= 0.41-1) but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages Two of those packages have dependencies, and one has multiple levels of dependencies that make gathering and installing all the files a painful experience. Maybe I'll go back to using the tarball! Everything seemed to be working OK, and it was real easy to set up...
