This sure sounds like either the username or password are wrong. You
may want to manually run mysql from a shell to confirm that the
slimserver user can really connect using the password you've configured
in slimserver.conf.
Do you really need to use an existing mysql instance? You may want to
just delete your slimserver.conf and restart. As long as Solaris puts
the mysqld binary in a sane place, slimserver will start it's own
instance and "just work".
