Just to clarify, the wiki page that I think you are referring to
explains how to use an exsiting mysqld *instance*.  What I am
suggesting is that you can use your Solaris installed version of
mysqld, but still let slimserver run it's own instance of the mysqld
daemon by finding and running the Solaris binary.
