uugggghh,.. looks to be maybe possible but probably a real pain in the hat, http://opal.com/freebsd/unicode.html#overview and maybe a whole build/compile whatev for FreeNAS. I'd better get started on another test machine. It seems FreeBSD has support for unicode 'translation' but wants to keep ISO_8859 as the default system charset.
