So far I have downloaded and burned the DVD iso images for Debian etch,
so now I'm just waiting for the hardware to arrive....

As far as the partitioning of the drive, I'm thinking of using   250 MB
for /boot, 2 GB for the Linux swap (the same as the amount of RAM), and
then the remainder as one large ext3 formatted partition for /var,
/usr, /tmp, and /home.

The Samba, Perl, APCUPSD, and also the Bastille packages seem to be
bundled with Debian.
