I believe the value of X changes. But I also always start with / first
and make it fairly small. I generally try to put /var /opt and /home
off on another partition, but assorted distros change where they expect
to put stuff, and I change distros occasionally, so I only get it right
in spirit

I have no idea when X changes, probably with some kernel stuff, or lilo
or grub. Details normal linux users don't bother with.

Assuming of course, that any linux users are normal :-)
