Yes this stuff is not meant to be done manually. If you follow the instructions at http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?DebianPackage you'll get all your asking for for free through the apt-system. I think that "gdebi{-gtk,}" might also resolve dependencies if they are all downloadable through apt.
