Just one point before you go for it! The reason I went for ubuntu server in the
end is because I wanted the option of playing audio on the server. Audio is
broken in the latest cc release and they won't fix it as it isn't a priority
for them.
The other reason is ease of package install, from the excellent CC guide
website, it looks like you have to go through a lot of command line stuff to
get everything going any way, especially mplayer, where you have to mess with
plugins etc. On ubuntu I just typed

Sudo apt-get install mplayer

And it was all working!
Also it's similarly easy to install the program webmin which gives you a web
interface like cc does.
Apart from those points i'm sure CC is otherwise excellent for use with
squeezecenter.

Pale Blue Ego,

I think I will give CC a try as you suggest. I only thought about
Ubuntu server as I am using the desktop version at the moment so I
figured it would be easier.

If I screw things up with CC I can always give Ubuntu server a go.

Thanks for the advice and I will let you know how I get on - probably
via stupid questions cos I havent installed it incorrectly.
