I tied removing $-x$ and I thought it was working, but now it is back to producing white noise when doing the ogg->brutefir->flac conversions. Playing flac and mp3 still works fine.
I noticed another strangeness: custom-convert.conf gets modified when a player has Brutefir-DRC enabled. What looks wrong is that $CLIENT_MAC_ADDRESS$ gets replaced everywhere, not just for the part of the file that is for a specific player. Thus it appears that it will fail to build the rules for a second player. In fact, it appears that every player must follow the same set of conversions, rather than being customizable for each player. I found another problem. When a track is being played thru brutefir and is stopped before completion (eg. by starting the playing of a different track), the sox, brutefir and flac processes hang forever and must be killed manually.
