Thanks for your responses. SuperQ, if it worked out of the box I wouldn't be writing for help from the forum. I acknowledge that I may be an idiot, but I have followed all the wisdom available to me, and it did not install simply.
However that hurdle has been jumped, the permissions issue seems to be next. Millwood, thanks for your help on this. I guess these command line fixes are required, so SuperQ, how does this look for 'out of the box'? Sorry to sound peeved, but where do I find this in a concise and newbie-friendly fashion? As a long-time windows user I know heaps of work-arounds and shortcuts to solve problems, so it's not fair to dump on linux for it's peculiarities, just because I haven't yet learned them. BUT... no way is it a smooth process to get the server working. I realise forums have endless repetitions of the same traffic, but I did spend a couple of hours trawling for what help could be found, only to see numerous people saying the same thing, ie it's easy, do the following... outcome: didn't work for this sucker.
