I started off with a QNAP TS-101 system but, after updating to SlimServer 6.5.x the performance was abysmal ... particularly the Web interface.
Also, Progressive were really slow to release SS updates. This persuaded me to upgrade to a PC/Ubuntu system, rather than a higher model from the QNAP range. I chose a very neat Shuttle system (http://eu.shuttle.com/en/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-171/310_read-13784/) - not cheap, but neat and quiet - suitable for installation alongside the audio gear. The only potential drawback of this system is the use of a 3.5 inch drive, limiting capacity. However, this hasn't been an issue for me. One significant benefit of this solution is that, with RubyRipper installed, decent quality ripping can be performed on the server system - something that is not easily achieved on most NAS systems. -- peterbell ------------------------------------------------------------------------ peterbell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7314 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46965 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
