If your new hard disk were a little larger, you could move the music from your Linkstation to the new laptop. That would help things like the SqueezeCenter scanner task.
If you're asking about the performance of the machine, I guess you've already set up a swap partition for the machine to use? (By the way, I'm running SC7.3 on a KuroBox - close-ish relation to the Linkstation - with 128Mb RAM and 266MHz CPU.
