3500 flacs... rough calculations lead to 100Gb. If your new hard disk
were a little larger, you could move the music from your Linkstation to
the new laptop. That would help things like the SqueezeCenter scanner
task.

If you're asking about the performance of the machine, I guess you've
already set up a swap partition for the machine to use?

(By the way, I'm running SC7.3 on a KuroBox - close-ish relation to the
Linkstation - with 128Mb RAM and 266MHz CPU. It's pretty slow for
web-based stuff, but works fine otherwise)

Your best bet would be to look at the 'Ubuntu Forums'
(http://ubuntuforums.org/) or the 'Ubuntu Wiki'
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/). Have a hunt around for "remote x session"
or similar. Me, I just use "ssh", but then I'm a console-junkie!

If you're running the .deb from SlimDevices, then I'd start by looking
at "/etc/init.d/squeezecenter". The "start-stop-daemon" command has a
"-N" option for setting niceness.

I think the SqueezeCenter deb package did this automatically for me...
when you say "command-line mode", I guess you mean "the runlevel which
doesn't start X"? That's runlevel 2 on my box... Start with "man
update-rc.d" or "man chkconfig" :-)
